“Why?” is an anguished confrontation with fate, a greater power, or whatever force seems to have shaped a love that feels extraordinarily deep while making a shared life impossible.

The repeated “Why?” is more than a request for an explanation. It carries years of tears, frustration, anger and emotional exhaustion. She knows the depth, strength and intensity of what she feels for him, which makes it even harder to understand why their paths crossed if they were never going to be allowed to fully share that love.
