“My Moncton Time” is a warm and personal farewell to a chapter of life filled with friendship, laughter, unexpected adventures and the people who helped turn Moncton, New Brunswick, into more than simply a place to live.
After joining the Greater Moncton Singles Social Group, the narrator discovers something she may not have expected when she first arrived—a community. Through social events, dancing, concerts, car shows, dinners, coffee and tea, trivia nights and ordinary conversations, acquaintances gradually become friends and everyday moments become treasured memories.
The song celebrates those memories by name. Erica's friendship and support during a particularly difficult period, the hilarious search for her vehicle with Joseph, dinners and conversations with Michael, Monday trivia with Debbie, Amber and Brian, Kelley's helping hand, Adrien's kindness, a birthday shared with Robert, conversations with Lynn, Virginia, Kerry Ann, Holly, Mo and Carol, and the special signed book from Nadine and David all become pieces of a much larger story.
There is plenty of humour woven through the gratitude. Getting only “two answers right—total” at trivia and spending nearly an hour searching for a vehicle are exactly the kinds of imperfect little moments that often become the stories people remember most.
Nadine and the shared love of dancing also bring another important message into the song: distance does not have to end connection. “Keep dancing!” becomes almost a small promise that the joy created during this chapter can continue even after everyone is no longer in the same place.
Most importantly, this isn't really a goodbye song. The move to Newfoundland represents a new beginning, but it does not erase New Brunswick or the people who made the Moncton chapter meaningful. The narrator leaves with friendships, stories and memories that travel with her.
The acknowledgement that some names may have been unintentionally missed makes the tribute broader as well. The gratitude belongs not only to those specifically mentioned, but to everyone who included her, talked with her, laughed with her and helped make her time there special.
The central message: Newfoundland may be where the next chapter begins, but Moncton helped write the chapter before it. Places become meaningful because of the people we meet there—and wherever life goes next, a little piece of Moncton and the friendships made there will always travel with her.
